     National Rules and Regulations

Where does my registration money go?

The registration fees, sponsor donations and fund-raising events are all needed to help run and support the Region. Each player must be registered with the National Office and a fee is collected from our Region for each player. Monies are also used to purchase the uniforms, trophies/medals, equipment, supplies, provide clinics for the volunteers, mailings, forms, repair work, referee supplies, volunteer appreciation, AYSO phone, ground maintenance, etc. The registration fee alone does not cover the cost of running this organization so we appreciate your support and the support of our community businesses.

What do I need to buy for my child?

You'll need to purchase shoes, shin guards and a ball. See our Player Equipment page for details.

How much of the game will my child play?

Every player participant shall be entitled to play at least half of every game as long as they are physically able. Parents must be aware that late arrival for a game is disruptive to the team and must be avoided. Therefore, while a player arriving during the first quarter will play at least two quarters, arriving during the second or third quarter can/will result in the player participating in only one quarter. If a child is coming off an injury, a medical release form signed by the child's doctor is required before he/she can resume participation in practices and games.

What if it's raining? Will games still be held?

Inclement weather or poor field conditions may necessitate the canceling of games. Any such cancellation will be made at the discretion of the Regional Commissioner or Age Group Coordinator.  For the U6/U8 divisions, the cancellation of games will most likely be announced on Friday.

Older divisions:
Participants are required to be at the field for their scheduled game unless the game is canceled. It is the coach's responsibility to check the AYS0 Region 118 website for field/game status within our Region. Coaches must call the Region's number of the opposing team if their team is playing out of our region.  Failure to be present with the legal minimum number of players (7 in eleven a side) shall result in a forfeit. We will also make an attempt to call every coach in the region affected by the cancellation of games.

How are players assigned to a team?

The Age Group Coordinators shall make team assignments in the U6 and U8 divisions. In these divisions, request for location, sibling or friend, are considered.

In U10 and older divisions, the coaches of their respective divisions will meet to form balanced teams using all the information that we have on each player.  A representative of the Board along with the Age Group Coordinator will conduct the team selections. Every effort will be made to balance the skill level of teams within each division. Once teams are formed, no transfer of any player from one team to another may be made without the approval of the coaches of both teams involved, the RC or the AGC, and the parent or guardian of the player.

Can I request that my child be placed on the same team as a friend?

For the U6 and U8 divisions, we usually accommodate these types of requests unless fulfilling the request will greatly strengthen or weaken the team.  For the older divisions, these types of requests are seldom approved.

When are the practices?

As all the coaches are volunteers, practice times are scheduled at the coach's convenience during the week. Each player must arrange to arrive on time and be picked up on time. For the U6/U8 divisions, a legal guardian must be present at all practices and games.  You will not be allowed to drop your child off to be picked up at the end of practice/game.

Coaches will also select their practice field in the Moanalua – Salt Lake, Aiea – Newtown area as long as the fields are approved for AYSO usage.  Please remember to bring a ball, shin guards and water to every practice.

Do we have to help set up the field?

It is the parent's task to help set up the goal nets prior to the first game of the day and also take down and store the goal posts, nets and corner flags after the last game of the day on their playing field.  Setup or takedown are for teams playing in the first or last game of the day.  Every team will have this responsibility at least once a season.

When are the games played?

Games for all age divisions are played on Saturdays except for tournament play.  We will publish the game schedules in mid-late August for the Fall Season.  For the U6-U10 divisions, games are played between 8:30 am thru 2:00 pm.  For the older age divisions, games could start as late as 4:00 pm.

Where are the games played?

The U6/U8 divisions play all of their games at Salt Lake District Park located near the entrance to the Honolulu Country Club.  The U10 division will be playing either at Salt Lake or Newtown, and the older divisions will be playing at Waipio, Waiau, and other locations to be announced.

What does AYSO insurance cover?

AYSO's accident insurance covers all AYSO's "registered players, coaches, referees, and other volunteers" for any injury "sustained while under adult supervision and while participating in scheduled games, tournaments, official AYSO functions, or practice sessions; and traveling as a team under adult supervision to or from scheduled games, tournaments or practice sessions.
