Who should attend referee training?
Parents - It will deepen your understanding and appreciation of the game, and it is a good opportunity to help give back to the kids and our community. Moreover, coaches invest much of their time coaching the kids and need all the parents to help.  All parents are highly encouraged to attend the class. Every game must have a center referee and 2 assistant referees (lines persons).
Coaches - It will make you a better coach, and it will help you know the rules to better teach the kids the game.

To enroll in a course YOU MUST BE REGISTERED as a VOLUNTEER in a current season first and also pass the Sterling background check, or the AYSOU button will not appear on your volunteer page.

Since it can take 1 to 7 days to process your volunteer application and clear the background check, DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to try and register for a course.

 8U Referee Course - This is a one night course
Course No. - Aiea Region 118 8U Official Course

Time: 6:30 to 8:30pm
Where: Summit Realty, LLC   98-029 Hekaha St. #14 - Behind Cutter Ford Aiea - MAP
This Class will teach you the basics for how to Referee an 8U Game, ALL PARENTS (including coaches) are encouraged to attend this Class, you will learn the Laws of the Games and you will have a better understanding on how the game is played. If you want to, attend the Basic Referee Course for additional knowledge.

You MUST register for the course in AYSOU - No Walk Ins.

Basic / Regional Referee Course for 10U games and up - This is a two night course
Aiea Region 118 Regional / Basic Referee Course
Date:  August 28 & 29, 2024 
Time: 6:30pm to 9:00pm
Where: Summit Realty - behind Cutter Ford in Aiea

You are required to attend both nights.

Optional Field session for class attendees planned for 8/31 at 8:30am.
Location: Waipio Field #2
Not required but encouraged

Seating is limited to 12 attendees.
Course will be open to Region 118 volunteers only until 8/26/24, then will open to volunteers from other regions.
Due to limited numbers, if you enroll and then change your mind, please disenroll so that those who might be on a wait list can get into the course.

This course is e Basic Referee Course over 2 night classes, this course will teach you how to Referee in the 10U division and up. Coaches and parents are Highly Encouraged to ATTEND this course. Referees are an IMPORTANT part of our program, the better we are educated on the Law's of the Game the more fun it is for Everyone. MOST important Our Kids are Enjoying the Game of Soccer due to your efforts. Every team should have at least three referees so please attend.

Companion Basic Referee Course for 10U games and up

Bring a copy of your online course certificate with you.

Circuit Training Session

Circuit training will be held on TBD  at Ala Puumalu Field from 8:30 to 11:30 am.  Field mechanics for the referee and assistant referee will be presented then practiced with a 10U scrimmage session.

Basic / Regional Referee Class
required for volunteers that are going to be the center
referee for the 10U and older divisions
• class is 2 nights
• Circuit training session is not required but highly
recommended. When possible, offered at the beginning of the fall season only.

Assistant Referee
for 10U and older divisions
• attend the Basic Referee Class
• Circuit training session is not required but highly
recommended. when possible, offered at the beginning of the fall season only.

Safe Haven
is now a separate certification class

• if you received the Safe Haven certification pre 2011, then you would need to take the new Safe Haven class

Special Pool of Region Referees

This is aimed at referees interested in gaining experience in the 10U and older divisions however it is open to any interested volunteer. If you would like to improve your referee skills, we would like to offer you more opportunities to referee an AYSO game. While improving your skills, you will also be helping the Aiea Region to attain its goal of improving the quality of our region referee teams. Contact your Age Group Coordinator through your team's coach or contact one of our referee administrators, or contact our Regional Commissioner.

Certification Courses

Safe Haven- This course is required for all volunteers in AYSO, especially our center referees.This class covers child and volunteer protection.Volunteers will come out of this class with an understanding of the referee’s role in developing the complete child.

 Referee Courses

AYSO has courses for a variety of levels, U8, Regional / Basic (10U/12U), Intermediate (12U/14U), Advanced (16/19U), and National.  8U and Regional Referee Courses are hosted by the Aiea Region and scheduled to take place in July/August.

There are also courses for the Intermediate (Area), Advanced (Section), and National levels.Courses for Intermediate/Advanced announced in the fall and spring. The National Course is held normally during the summer.The Advance and National course is usually hosted by Section 7.

8U Referee Support Tent - Look for the tent near the backstop.

10U Referee Support Tent - look for the tent located between fields. Go there for pre-game tips and to ask questions.

Mentoring - If you would like a referee to observe one of your games, please contact the referee support tent, your child's Age Group Coordinator or any Aiea Region board member.
